Illite is a new type of mineral, which has a development and utilization history of only over twenty years.  But it is only in the past ten years that Illite has been explored, developed and used on a large scale as a clay resource in China. The application methods of traditional mineral kaolin, pyrophyllite, talc and so on have mainly been referred to for the application of illite. Existing studies have shown that the main application fields of illite are: ceramic material, coating and filler of high-quality paper, plastics and rubber filler, cosmetic raw material, as well as plating material for the production of automobile shell, welding rod and so on. Illite of poor quality is also used to produce fertilizer, soil conditioner, poultry feed additive, building lightweight aggregate, cement ingredient, and so on.
